Mr C, a 38-year-old male, had been suffering from chronic or persistent back pain for several years. The pain initially started after lifting a heavy object at work, and it had progressively worsened over time. Despite various treatments, including medication, which he either found ineffective or felt the side effects were worse than the pain, so the pain remained. Thus impacting Mr C’s ability to work, participate in hobbies, and even get restful sleep. His pain had caused him significant distress, was impacting on his relationship with his wife, leading to feelings of anxiety and low mood. Furthermore, Mr C had been offered injection therapy as a potential treatment option, but he struggled with a severe needle phobia, which prevented him from considering this option.
