The Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) is inviting applications for two roles to be co-opted to the FPM Training and Assessment Committee (FPMTAC): one SAS Representative and one Locally Employed Doctor (LED) Representative.

Committee aims and objectives

The FPM Training and Assessment Committee (FPMTAC) oversees all aspects of Pain Medicine training and assessment in the UK, including curriculum implementation, guidance development, and maintenance of training standards. The committee advises the Faculty Board, the RCoA’s Training & Curriculum Committee, and RCoA Council on all training-related matters in Pain Medicine.

Members of the FPMTAC should observe total confidentiality with respect to any discussions or papers considered confidential or sensitive, except where disclosure has been formally permitted.

About the role

The Faculty recognises the vital contribution of SAS and Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs) and is committed to supporting their professional development. As the SAS or LED representative on FPMTAC, you will play an important role in enhancing SAS and LED engagement, developing guidance and advocating for the interests of SAS or LEDs working in Pain Medicine.  

The appointment is for an initial term of three years, with the possibility of a second term subject to approval by the Faculty Board.

Person Specification: 

Applicants must:

  • Be either an Affiliate or Member of the Faculty of Pain Medicine OR a member, associate member or fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
  • Be in active clinical practice in Pain Medicine and up to date with current developments in the specialty.
  • Be able to commit time to the role. Applicants are encouraged to discuss this appointment with their department or senior management in advance.

Support

You will join an enthusiastic and supportive committee led by two welcoming Co-Chairs. You’ll receive guidance throughout your first year, including involvement in relevant projects and work streams. The FPM Secretariat will provide ongoing administrative support throughout your term.

Responsibilities

  • Review papers and correspondence in advance of meetings.
  • Attend and actively contribute to all scheduled meetings.
  • Support the Committee’s work through participation in relevant projects and work streams.
  • Draft reports, proposals, or other documents as needed.
  • Contribute content for Faculty communications, such as the Transmitter newsletter and website.
  • Join relevant subcommittees, working groups, or boards as appropriate.
  • Uphold the values and high standards of the Faculty in all committee-related activities.

Meetings 

  • The Committee meets four times a year with an equal mix of remote and in-person meetings
  • Meeting times are typically:
    • Remote: 09:00 - 11:30
    • In-person: 10:30 - 13:00 (held at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London)
  • Members are expected to attend all meetings. Delegation is not permitted.
  • Travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with standard arrangements.
  • Meetings typically include reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, presentations, progress updates on projects and initiatives, and reports from Sub-Committees that feed into the FPMTAC.
Meeting etiquette:
  • Copies of the agenda and accompanying papers will be circulated in advance of each meeting.
  • Members may request to add agenda items before each meeting.
  • Open constructive discussion is encouraged.
  • Any conflicts of interest should be declared to the Co-Chairs ahead of time.

  • Friday 18 July 2025 (Virtual), 9.00am - 11.30am
  • Friday 14 November 2025 (In-person), 10.30am - 13.00pm
